October 2007: Ashley and I have a new article in New York magazine that will surely make you think when you're putting your child to bed. It's the science of how sleep makes your child smarter, and thinner.  Despite all the effort of modern parents to parent consciously, and correctly, we have overlooked the fact that we've stolen an hour of their sleep time over the last thirty years. This "Lost Hour" appears to have major consequences on their cognitive performance, academic record, emotional stablity, and rate of obesity. Read the main article here, and then read the follow-up story here (the coolest tips to falling asleep you've ever read). You can also follow the story on our blog, with more in-depth analysis and media updates as the story breaks.

Major news! Next book project!

June 2007: Following on the whopping success of our article for New York magazine on the science of praise, I am working with Ashley Merryman on a new book based on counterintuitive findings from the science of parenting. It turns out that many of our common assumptions are plum wrong. This is not a parenting manual; rather, it's an intellectual journey through some fascinating science. It will appeal to parents and non-parents alike.

I invite you to get a preview of the book and to take a survey, simultaneously. It's fun and interesting.  Click here to take the survey.

If you are interested in the book and want to be notified when it comes out, please join my mail list. This is a 100% private list seen only by me, shared with noone else.
